Fascination of Orchids 2008 - pg 1

orchid exhibit with statueActually, the Fascination of Orchids show used to be a lot more opulent than it is now, and I confess I miss that. I miss the wow of the towering displays created to impress the non-orchid collecting general public.

However, there are still more orchids than my brain can comprehend and they are all beautiful. There is still art in the arrangements.

For an orchid collector, the Fascination of Orchids show is a great event because it is both lovely and large. After you finish drooling over the awarded plants, you can go to the adjacent orchid vendor building and buy some beauties of your own.

Plan to go next year! This orchid show takes place annually, the weekend before February 14, at the Orange County Fair & Event Center.

a variety of orchidsAlthough our orchid collection consists mostly of phalaenopsis, we do enjoy looking at other types of orchids. The Fascination of Orchids show included many orchid genera.

plenty of phalaenopsis orchids!Unlike small orchid shows which sometimes disappoint us by having only 1 or 2 phalaenopsis plants among the orchids displayed, the Fascination of Orchids show had many phalaenopsis hybrids.

A portion of the exhibitor buildingAs you can see in the photo of one end of the exhibitors building, we had plenty of room to walk around, which made it easy to take photographs. (In contrast, the vendor building was quite crowded; sometimes it was awkward to try to squeeze forward to look at the available orchids.) An orchid class is in progress in the back corner.
